A scattering of mind (like rain
flung out small and squalled
against the random panes
attention turns to in its hunt
for some lasting fascination
that will hold its gaze and not allow
a second scene to come and slide
its heart away) is hard to stay
and even harder to abide.
–Ben Downing
its hard not to overhear
laughter on the train
especially of teenagers
from a place called 29 palms
giving each other tittytwisters
and talking about tattoos and
their children's new haircuts
I was their age not too far ago
but I don't remember these things
they way they giggle and splay
their legs across each other
the way they cuss, saying faggot
like it mean's you aren't human
I need a beer, or headphones or
something to make these bigots
disappear. Uneducated redneck
fascists. Who drink 4 locos and malt
liquor. Who fuck their cousins and
smoke meth. It makes me glad I
finished highschool. It makes me
glad I don't judge people off
appearances.
